In the hustle and bustle of building a million dollar company life certainly has a way of supporting us. As many of you know, my honey Gordie went in for his routine annual checkup only to learn that he needed to have quadruple by-pass heart surgery. Needless to say it was a “WAKE UP” call for us both. In the moments that ticked before his surgery we had to have the uncomfortable conversation of “What if..”
What if he didn’t make it? What if something went wrong? These are the conversation we try to avoid having and yet they are necessary and critical to those that we love. I will say that the coach who is strong for so many was struggling to stay strong for the man she loves. I did the only thing I knew how to do. First thing I did was pray to God to give me strength and to heal my husband and second I called my BFF, Sharon and my baby sister Karen because I knew that they would both know how to encourage me and keep me from going down the dark rabbit hole.
It has been almost six weeks since Gord’s surgery and his recovery is remarkable (Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes). During that time I had to learn “patience and compassion”. I had to become the velvet hammer and show him tough love in order to help him with his recovery. Through the entire experience, I learned to lean on my clients who show such amazing love towards us. I had to let go of things that didn’t matter and be okay with not getting “everything”. The superwoman took off her cape and allow herself to be scared and vulnerable and unsure…only for a moment. You can’t stay there long or else you find yourself unable to climb out of the darkness.
Oddly enough, my coaching business had its biggest month in revenue in my company’s history which showed me something about the power of systems and processes. It also showed me that without them all you have is a glorified JOB.
This has been an amazing learning experience and although scary especially for someone who loves control. I realized that I didn’t have to have all of the answers. I didn’t have to know how everything would turn out. All I needed to have was two things. “FAITH and SURRENDER”. Faith to know that God would not let me down. Faith to know that my clients would be there for me. Faith to know that I can do whatever is necessary to grow a million dollar business. And to surrender to the process and the lesson that God was so graciously trying to give me.
The lessons I learned from our WAKE UP call are invaluable. What I learn I will share with you and hopefully I can save you the lesson. First lesson, is knowing what matters most. What is the lifestyle you wish to create with your business? Second lesson, don’t wait to have the hard conversations. It wasn’t that we were ignoring them but no one wants to talk about what if… And my third lesson is clearly understanding that I don’t have to have all of the answers. It is when you begin taking action that the answers will present themselves. If you are unsure what to do that is okay. Take one step and you will find that you will gain more clarity as to which direction to take.
It begins with your FAITH…remember the darkest hour is just before dawn.
